Budd Plant Complex
The Budd Redevelopment was commissioned by the new owners, The Plymouth Group, to rethink the use of this historically unique industrial property and its signature buildings on this 25 acre property. Originally designed in the early 1900s by the legendary architect Albert Kahn for automotive and military manufacturing, these structures are early examples that defined 20th century industrial architecture.
The overall design rethinks parking, public spaces and uses for the existing buildings. The Zephyr and Pioneer buildings were reimaged as spaces for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical business. The facade cladding was replaced with a highly efficient alternate energy material and integrated with the existing structural system. The enormous skylights were re-glazed and re-conditioned as dynamic components of this historic interior.
