UGI Energy Services relocated their headquarters into this rehabilitated 145,000 square foot textile mill at the historic Berkshire Knitting Mills in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. Floor levels were removed to create a new, centrally located grand entrance that features a double-height lobby with striking views of the surrounding mountains. Inviting to employees and visitors alike, the lobby features reclaimed materials from the original structure in its design. Beyond the security desk an all-wood symposium staircase draws eyes up to the second floor from the large-format tiled floors to the glass walls and architectural pendant lighting.

The building was completely stripped down to the bare structure and then repaired and restored to preserve its original aesthetic while providing all the amenities of a modern “Class A” office. Open work environments on the upper floors are designed to take full advantage of the enormous mill windows and the abundant natural light that they provide. Collaborative workstation environments ring the exterior to ensure that everyone has equal access to the sweeping views and high ceilings accenting the exposed structure. Revitalized “Philadelphia Stair towers” encourage people to walk from floor to floor while a 35-foot-high clear span ceiling structure on the top floor (originally intended to house dye vats) has been transformed into a shared common park with meeting rooms, cafeteria, game room and ample space for social interactions.
